22 Jan

After 15 years on the U.S. Ski Team and 186 races, Sarah Schleper has retired. Sarah was a four time Olympian for the United States. She retired on Thursday, December 29, 2011.

Sarah Schleper

Sarah was born on February 19, 1979 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She began ski racing when she was 11 at the Ski Club Vail. When she was 16 she made the U.S. Ski Team and skied in her first  World Cup in her town of Vail, Colorado.

Sarah retired in Lienze, Austria. She went down a slalom course in a dress! Half way through the course Sarah stopped and picked up her 3 year old son Lasse and went down the course with him in her arms.

Thanks for a post on a U.S. athlete I’ve never heard of. Being a four-time Olympian, and having competed in so many races, I wonder why I’ve never heard of her?

Has she won medals in any World Cup or Olympic events?

    Thanks,

    Mr. H

When I first heard that Sarah Schleper retired I had no idea she was on the U.S. Ski Team!

Just watched the video, FANTASTIC. It’s awesome skiers are allowed to wear, or not wear what they want on their last run.

It mention she won a World Cup some years back. Is that the overall WORLD CUP, or an event during the year’s series?

Thanks Megan! I think doing slalom in a dress would be a very bad idea because what would happen if you straddled a gate?

Great post, I love the video, I think it’s cool she brought her son with her down the race course. It’s funny she wore a dress.
