Last season, Mikaela Shiffrin won the U.S. national slalom title. This year on March 28, 2012 Mikaela won it again!
Information on Mikaela Shiffrin:
Mikeala was born on March 13, 1995 in Vail, Colorado but grew up in Eagle-Vail, Colorado. She grew up skiing at Vail. Mikeala started skiing when she was three years old. When she was little she never wanted to free ski she only wanted to train gates. For high school she went to Burke Mountain Academy in Burke, Vermont. Click here to visit their website. This year Mikeala is on the U.S. ski team B team. This is her first year on the team. Mikeala likes to play tennis, soccer and she likes to read books. Her dad raced in college for the Dartmouth ski team, and her mom is a Masters racer. Her brother, Taylor, also ski races in FIS races. She is sponsored by Atomic, Leki, POC, and Barilla.
For Mikeala to win the U.S. national slalom she had to win the final slalom race in 2012 in Colorado. This was Mikeala’s first year racing in the world cup. She got third in a slalom and she had three other top 10 finishes.
“It was an amazing season, it was really fun,” said Shiffrin. “I tried not to have any expectations but I know what I hoped for and I definitely hoped for a podium. I hoped for top tens in slalom and I actually hoped for a little more with my GS but you can’t get everything and I was just really excited with what I did get.”

Mikeala Shiffrin also recently won the Don A. Metivier Golden Ski Award. The Don Metivier Golden Ski Award is given to the best Male and Female skiers in the east. The Golden Ski Awards started in 1969 by Don Metivier. Ryan Cochran-Siegle also won the Golden Ski Award. This is the second year in a row that Mikeala Shiffrin and Ryan Cochran-Siegle won this ski award!
